Insulation refers to materials designed to slow or stop the transfer of heat. Heat energy in homes is moved by convection, conduction and radiation. Wall insulation is used to slow down the conduction of heat into or out of your home. Properly installed insulation has a big impact on the amount of energy your home uses. However, poorly installed insulation, something as simple as over-compressing, can severely reduce the effectiveness.
If you are planning on taking the quality insulation installation credit to meet Title 24 requirements then the work must be verified by a HERS rater. It is important that the builder or home owner responsible for the job communicate with the HERS rater to make sure the verification is done before areas that need to be inspected are covered.
