HERS service listIf your air conditioning system is not getting adequate air flow over the evaporator coils in the air handling unit then efficiency and comfort are suffering while maintenance costs are going up. If the fan in the air handling unit is not pushing enough air across the evaporator coil ice will form further limiting the amount of air flow. This reduced air flow and ice cause a chain of events that can lead to compressor failure. If there are crushed ducts or other obstructions causing the reduced air flow then the load on the fan motor also increases causing additional energy waste.
The minimum air flow across the cooling coil in climate zones 10-15 is 350 Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) per ton in cooling mode. A well designed duct system will meet the 350 cfm/ton requirement easily.
